Dealing With Loss

This blog will show how "positive self-talk" can help you if you've lost a friend or a relationship has ended. Here are some suggestions that might help you deal a little better with losses and "nurse your wounds."

1.) Spend time doing things and thinking about things that are different from what you and your friend used to do.
2.) Catch yourself when you start feeling sorry for yourself. Remind yourself of al the things you can be thankful for.
3.) Set the alarm clock for ten minutes and cry and feel sorry for yourself. When the alarm goes off, get up and do something constructive, no matter how small.
4.) Be very gentle with yourself. Accept that you're hurt. Treat yourself with the same care you would offer a good friend in a similar situation.
5.) Avoid situations (on the bus, in the school cafeteria, at your locker) where you might run into your old friend and overreact.
6.) Let the healing process run its full course. The process of healing and growth is not smooth. It is full of ups and downs, moves forward and backward, takes big leaps and slides backwards into depression. This is especially true in adolescence. Realize this and know that you will feel better soon.
